BARRIERS OF PROTECTION
The innocent, undefiled and pure,
walk through life with a heart that's sure,
they're gentle with an open mind,
expect no harm with a soul that's kind.
When life hits them it's a mighty shock,
it shatters their innocence with a devastating knock,
total disbelief plays terrible havoc,
pain and disappointment stops the clock.
The horrific disillusionment of broken trust,
causes a mighty crack in the crust,
shields come up for self protection,
building barriers against rejection.
Withdrawn from life is construed as insecurity,
when in fact it's a case of total infurity,
lack of interest for further involvement,
seeking to find some genuine commitment.
