TRUE TO THE SELF

We study the past to build a better future,

not repeat the mistakes, but learn to nurture,

all nations have suffered in some way or another,

through tyranny and oppression which caused them to smother.

Each generation thinks they know so much more,

come to the fore to even the score,

the cycle is repeated with aggression and war,

reaching deeply into our human core.

We are all made to study culture and tradition,

then there's our schooling with different education,

onto it is added our faiths and religion,

the university of life with its harsh tuition.

All of this needs to be drawn together,

so we can know what's important to remember,

using love as a gauge will keep us safe,

make us true to the self with humble grace.
