SEEING LIFE STANDING

A NEW WORLD OPENS....

No longer looking at the ground from the crawling position, we have risen onto our legs and a whole new world has opened within our eye level. We point at everything - not because we want it, but because we want to know about it..... adults shouldn't give it to us and later tell us don't touch, don't pick up, etc... it is confusing.....give it and take it away..... what's up with you ????? So when we as children point at something we are asking information.....what is it ? What does it do ? What does it feel like ? What does it taste like ? What is it used for ?  Our minds are like sponges at this age and we absorb everything.... Explanations, sounds and smells, touch and feel, texture and colour associated with various items and events...it is an entire movie that is being recorded by our brains. This is why much later in life a smell, touch, sound, colour, etc can trigger a memory of what we are not even sure of !!! We find a pattern of positive teaching and we stick to it..... and if and when we need to change things, we explain it in a proper way....we know have more knowledge and information than what we did back then.....don't presume people can read your mind.... because they can't..... Much patience and tolerance is needed because everything is new to the child and they tirelessly ask all day....and we should never shake them off or "bully" them into silence, or worse still....bribe them with sweets or anything else....because you can be very sure that they will practise these "tricks" in creche and school and turn into "bullies" themselves, because that is what they see and experience.....no child learns through verbal commands as much as they learn through example..... we always follow the example set by our elders.....the words and actions should always be equal.....we can't talk one thing and go and do another....the child will always follow the action as the words go right out the other side......so do what you say and say what you do......adults are constantly on the radar.....do right with the little ones.....©
